From the Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Election Commission, Letter Rc. No 2986/2021/PE-2, dated 17.09.2021,
ORDER:
The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has notified the schedule for the Ordinary Elections to Rural Local Bodies in nine re-constituted districts in two phases. The 1 phase of election is on Wednesday, the 06 October, 2021 and the 2nd phase of election is on Saturday, the 09 October, 2021. The Casual Elections to Rural Local Bodies in the other 28 districts in a single phase on the 09th October, 2021.
2. Therefore, the Government have decided to declare the said days of Poll as public holidays under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881). All Government Offices including industrial establishments of the Government and Government controlled bodies and all educational institutions will remain closed on 06.10.2021 in the areas where polling takes place in the first phase and on 09.10.2021 in the areas where polling takes place in the second phase and Casual Elections in the other 28 districts.
3. Accordingly, the following Notification will be published in an Extraordinary issue of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, dated the 28th September, 2021.
NOTIFICATION
Under the Explanation to section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881) read with the Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs No.20-25-26, Public-1, dated the 8th June 1957, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, hereby declares Wednesday, the 06 October, 2021 and Saturday, the 09 October, 2021 the dates on which the poll for the Ordinary elections to the rural local bodies 2021 will take place, to be public holidays, in those areas wherever such poll takes place in the nine re-constituted districts, namely Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu,

Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupathur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi and also declares Saturday, the 9th October, 2021, the date on which the poll for the Casual elections to the Rural Local Bodies will take place, to be a public holiday, those areas wherever such poll takes place in the other 28 districts.
