Vietnam's President Tran Dai Quang passed away at the age of 61 on September 21 in a military hospital in Hanoi after a prolonged serious illness. According to reports, the Vietnamese leader had been suffering from a serious illness since the past few months and had travelled abroad several times for treatment.
2. (b) India
The World Bank board has approved an ambitious five-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for India that is in line with India’s objectives of high, sustainable and inclusive growth. The framework sets the strategic focus for the World Bank’s engagement with India for the period FY18-22.
3. (d) Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government is going to come out with a scheme to protect deposits of upto Rs 1 lakh in cooperative credit societies, on the lines of similar protection offered to depositors of commercial banks. The name of the scheme would be Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Credit Society Deposit Protection Scheme. It will provide protection to deposits up to Rs one lakh.

The first General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance, ISA, will be inaugurated on October 2, 2018 in New Delhi. The ISA is a major initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in contributing to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and massive deployment of solar energy. The Founding Conference of the ISA was jointly hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in New Delhi in March 2018.

India has contributed one million US dollars for the installation of solar panels on the roof of the imposing UN building at the world body's headquarters in New York. The contribution will help reduce carbon footprint and promote sustainable energy. India was the first responder to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for climate action.

India has successfully test-fired the indigenously developed surface-to-surface short-range tactical ballistic missile 'Prahaar' from the Odisha coast. The missile is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation, guidance and electromechanical actuation systems with an advanced onboard computer.

The joint air tactical exercise “Aviaindra-18” has started between Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Air Force of the Russian Federation at Lipetsk, Russia from September 17 to 28, 2018. The second session of Aviaindra 18 would be conducted in Jodhpur, India from December 10 to 22, 2018. The aim of the exercise is focused towards anti-terrorist operations in a bi-lateral scenario.

The Manipur cabinet on September 19, 2018 decided to introduce the Manipur Mob Violence Control and Prohibition Bill to stop increasing incidences of lynchings in the state. The bill would be introduced in the House soon to check injustice.
2. (d) Mizoram
Mizoram had the highest adult HIV prevalence among states in India last year with the infection being detected in 2.04 per cent of the people whose blood samples were tested. Around 18,081 people were found HIV positive in Mizoram between October 1990 and August 2018. The state has a total population of around 11 lakh.
3. (b) New Delhi
The foundation stone of India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on September 20, 2018. The centre will be the biggest indoor exhibition space in India and will rank among the world’s top 10. Its facilities will be at par with the world’s best in terms of size and quality.

India would soon be launching a National Registry of Sexual Offenders, which will have the profiles of first time offenders as well as repeat offenders. The database would include names, photographs, residential address, DNA samples, fingerprints, Aadhaar and PAN numbers of convicted sexual offenders. With the roll out of the registry, India will become the ninth nation in the world to set up and maintain such a detailed database of sexual offenders.

The Employee's State Insurance has approved a scheme named ‘Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna’ for unemployed Insured Persons covered under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948. The decision was taken by the ESI Corporation during its 175th meeting, which was held in New Delhi.

The West Bengal government launched a scheme “Swayangsiddha” in different districts of the state to combat human trafficking. The aim of the scheme is to empower young boys and girls to make informed choices so that they are less vulnerable to trafficking and child marriage.

In New Delhi, the Union Government along with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched the Green Agriculture project that seeks to bring transformative change in the farm sector through conservation of biodiversity and forest landscapes.

In a historic move, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in on September 19, 2018 signed an agreement on denuclearisation, reducing military tensions and defusing crisis on the Korean peninsula.
