The central government is planning to permit the reopening of all schools and colleges in a gradual manner throughout the country from 1st September.
As a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, all schools and colleges throughout the country have remained closed since March.
Though relaxations in several sectors were announced in each successive phase of the lockdown extension, currently in its 7th Phase, the central government HAS NOT PERMITTED REOPENING OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES THUS FAR. In this scenario, information is gathered that the central government has planned to permit the reopening of schools and colleges during the 4th Phase of Unlock (Unlock-4).
The central ministry of Human Welfare and Development has conducted a detailed discussion/review regarding the reopening of schools and colleges during the conference of the health Department Officials.
Accordingly, the Central Government has planned to reopen all schools in a gradual manner from 1st September to 1st November.
It is also planned to release the detailed list of regulations and procedures to be observed regarding the preventions of the raging coronavirus spread to be implemented in all schools before the end of August. This will be announced with the Unlock-4 lockdown relaxations.
At the same time, it has also been decided to entrust the state government with the authority to decide on reopening dates according to the prevailing conditions of the coronavirus spread. As such, the reopening dates of schools and colleges will be decided based on the prevalent conditions on the corona crisis front.
The Central Government is seriously considering following the Switzerland government procedure regarding the reopening of schools.
According to this procedure, school classes will be conducted in 2 shifts. If there are 4 sittings for a particular class, a 2-hour session in the forenoon and another 2-hour session in the afternoon will be conducted.
The morning shift will function from 8.00 AM to 11.00 AM and the afternoon shift will be from 12.00 Noon to 3.00 PM. In each shift, only 33.33% of teachers and school staff will function.
For the present, permission WILL NOT BE GIVEN for classes up to 5th Standard. This decision has been taken as the children studying in these classes are too young and would find it difficult to adhere to the regulations on coronavirus prevention.
Though the schools are allowed to open after 1st September, permission will be for conducting classes for the first 15 days only for the 10th and 11th Standards. Subsequently, permission will be given to start conducting classes fort eh 6th to 9th Standard students.
