Dear Thiru Dharmendra Pradhan,
SECRETARIAT, CHENNAI-600 009.
Date:15.07.2021
I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your new assignment as Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
This is with reference to the conduct of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). It has always been our consistent and considered opinion that Class XII marks alone should be the basis for Higher Education admission and we have believed that conducting National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) deprives opportunities for rural students. Majority of them study in their mother tongue and do not have resources /access to the coaching institutions. Government of Tamil Nadu had constituted a committee to decide on the evaluation and compilation of marks for Class XII students. Admissions to professional, and science courses in Tamil Nadu will be made based on the Class XII marks. The above decision has been made keeping in mind the safety of the students and also the concerns expressed by a large section of educationalists, teachers, parents and medical experts.
Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has already addressed a D.O. Letter to Hon'ble Prime Minister on 5.6.2021. A copy of the letter is enclosed for your perusal.
Hence, in these circumstances, given the pandemic situation, it is the considered view of our Government;
a) Conducting of National Level Entrance Examination or similar exam for any professional courses would be detrimental to the health and well being of the students. It is therefore urged to cancel the conduct of all National Level Entrance Examinations like NEET as in the case of cancellation of Class XII examinations by CBSE.
b) Government of Tamil Nadu may be allowed to fill all professional seats including MBBS/BDS/ AYUSH courses on basis of Class XII marks alone.
With warm regards,
நீட் தேர்வில் இருந்து தமிழகத்துக்கு விலக்களிக்க கோரினோம்
