Holiday - Public Holiday on 18.12.2023 (Monday) for the Districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi declared under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 Orders - Issued.

The cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels over equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal off south Sri Lanka coast is now seen over Comorin area and neighbourhood extending up to mid tropospheric levels. Under its influence isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain is likely over south Tamil Nadu on 17th and 18th December. In view of the above, the Government has decided to declare Public Holiday on 18.12.2023 (Monday) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, as a special case.

2) The Government accordingly issues the following orders:

i) All Government offices including the offices of Public Undertakings / Corporations, Boards, Banks, Financial Institutions etc., in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi will be closed on 18.12.2023 (Monday).

ii) However, all essential services, such as Police, Fire Service, local bodies, milk supply, water supply, hospitals/medical shops, power supply, transport, fuel outlets, hotels / restaurants, etc., and the offices engaged in disaster response, relief and rescue activities shall function as usual.

3) Accordingly, the following notification will be published in the extraordinary issue of the Tamil Nadu Gazette on 18th of December 2023. NOTIFICATION

Under the "Explanation" to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881) read with Notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, No.20-25-26, Public 1, dated 8th, June 1957, the Government of Tamil Nadu hereby declares Monday, the 18th of December, 2023, a Public Holiday in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Tenkasi Districts.
