தமிழகத்தில் மெல்ல அதிகரிப்பதால் சோதனைகளை அதிகப்படுத்தி பொதுமக்கள் முகக்கவசம் அணிவதை கண்காணித்து நோய்த்தொற்று பரவாமல் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர்கள் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர்களுக்கு

Dear all,
Kindly note that in Delhi as against 82 cases a day on April 4th, COVID cases have risen to 632 yesterday. Positivity also from below 1 percent has gone to about 5 percent. Increasing trend is also seen in UP, Haryana and also mildly in Maharashtra. Internationally also OMICRON driven cases were in the range of 7.45 lakhs a day in the week ending April 18th.
In Tamil Nadu, while so far there has been no significant changes, cases have also mildly risen from below 25 a day to figures in the range of 30 and above. Around 8 districts have reported isolated cases. At a stage when we should aim at virus suppression, it is noticed that isolated cases are still getting reported and we need to keep monitoring the trajectory of cases and also test positivity at district and sub district levels. I also request you to follow up on the following
i. Use of Mask and follow up of COVID appropriate behaviour: This is the time to refocus on the need to continue to use mask in public places and crowded places in any setting and hospitals. This direction of mask and COVID appropriate behavior was never withdrawn and still in place.Not following of COVID appropriate behavior in Hospital premises and among patients and visitors and also in public places and areas of crowding can compound the risk in case people come in contact with isolated positive cases.
ii. Vaccinations: On Vaccinations also we need to keep driving the vacciantion of about 40 lakh persons who are yet to get vaccinated for first dose and 1.37 crore for second dose and follow up those eligible for booster doses with special focus on the elderly and co-morbid. Line list of persons may be followed up and continued drives organized in areas with lower levels of vaccinations.
iii. Ensuring Medical preparedness and monitoring hospital admissions: While hospital admissions in Tamil Nadu are at very low level, we need to ensure that facilities and the assets and equipment created and upgraded in various health facilities are maintained and kept in functional readiness though there is no immediate need. iv. RTPCR testing, tracing and treatment: On testing contacts, extended contacts and symptomatic case in all settings should be tested and positive should be isolated and treated depending on clinical signs as per the protocol.
v. Whole Genomic sequencing: Currently all samples sequenced have revealed that 100 percent OMICRON variant of which 93 percent BA2 OMICRON sub variant and no case of XE recombinant sub variant have been detected as a matter of routine a few samples from the recent positives should be sent regularly for genomic sequencing to keep a check on the variant or sub variant in circulation. vi. Continued need on information, education and awareness campaigns: Let us keep reminding the
people about the basics and not let go of the had earned gains achieved in controlling COVID in Tamil Nadu due to non follow up of COVID appropriate behaviour and vaccinations among the large sections of the society and the people. Adequate Information, education and communication campaign is the need of the hour to not only retain the awareness levels but also ensuring change in behaviour.
While experts keep saying that the recent spike in other states is not an immediate cause of worry, unless we see a change in the hospital admissions, it is always better to be cautious and guarded in matters of public health and take preemptive and proactive steps and keep monitoring the COVID cases and ensure that effective measures are continued to be taken to prevent any spurt and keep continuing the efforts to keep COVID cases in control.
